OMG. I think I just need to let the video do the talking for this one. 'Whale sharking' was INCREDIBLE! We swam with a male whale shark (most of the ones that swim with people are male) who was enormous (no actual length stats available). The guides said he was super curious about us as can be evidenced by the fact that he literally turned around and came back for more! We were so close, in 90m deep water in the Indian Ocean on a perfect 35 degree day. We wore stinger suits although Elizabeth and Jonathon wore wetsuits which was an added bonus for them as althought the water wasnt cold, it was abit fresh. The company we swam with sends a plane up to find the sharks (they are a shark - they have gills and their tail is a vertical fin, whereas whales come up to breath and have a horizontal fin) and then we bunny hop along with them as they swim along. This took all morning and in the afternoon we did a drift snorkel where we just go with the current (so relaxing and exciting at the same time!), and of course some boom netting. We had done some drift snorkelling in the shallows and protection of Turquoise Bay the day before so the kids had a fair idea of what to expect.
From here, the plan is drive lots till we get to Broome in 2 days to see Staircase to the Moon.
